Enc1102-13 Blog 1-Genres

All types of media are categorized into genres, video games are no exception. the genres include, but are not limited to: Action, RPG, Adventure, Simulation, Strategy, and many others. These genres can be broken down even further, for instance, action can also be broken down into Shooter or Fighting, and RPG can be broken up into Sandbox or Japanese (JRPG). However there are very few video games that only encompass one genre. Why? Because it would be boring. Can you imagine a shooter game that has no other elements of any genre to it? It would be shooting a target, nothing else. Halo, for instance is a shooter that also involves some adventure when Master Chief has to travel around the Halo following missions, sci-fi since it is placed in a different time and planet with aliens, and a few RPG elements to it when leveling up in the multiplayer in later games. Or even simple games like Pokémon that are considered to be solely RPG games, still incorporate action, adventure, and even fantasy elements into the games. These different genres complimenting each other are make the game fun, and give the game its uniqueness. which without, video games would not be as interesting as they are today.
